When we think about climate, we usually think about weather. In St. Louis, you can experience all 4 seasons in one day at times. Some people say the weather in St. Louis can be quite unpredictable! Just this week we had a beautiful Spring snapshot and now snow, rain and ice are on its way!
The premise of this blog is not to highlight the “excitement” of St. Louis weather, but rather examine the dynamics of inclusive workplace climates. A work climate is the workplace environment. Climate is a powerful tool for employee behavior. It is also a great predictor for how employees will behave within your organization.
Peer influence contributes to the influence of environmental conditions. Perceptions are created by employees which in turn can co-create the climate within an organization. We can have an impact and shape climate within our workgroups which are inclusive. Some people say that if we’re not part of the solution, we are part of the problem.
So how can we be part of the solution?
- Assess the quality and climate of yourself and how it compares to your work culture. Do you see any gaps?
- Articulate inclusive standards.
- Role mode and demonstrate by bringing clarity by inclusion.
